Cough in Antalya: When to Book a Doctor Visit
When an adult cough needs urgent help, whether a doctor can assess you at your Antalya accommodation and what to confirm before requesting a visit.

If you are in Antalya with a cough that is rapidly worsening, chest pain or new breathing difficulty, seek urgent medical assessment today. Severe breathing difficulty is an emergency: call 112 in Turkey instead of waiting for a doctor visit. A mild cough that is improving does not automatically need an appointment. NHS: cough, GOV.UK: Turkey health advice.
For a non-emergency cough that needs checking, you can request a doctor visit through Docio at your hotel, apartment or another suitable location. Describe your symptoms and review a responding doctor's proposal and estimated price before accepting. Confirm that an in-person chest assessment is appropriate; availability is not guaranteed, and some symptoms need a clinic or hospital.
This guide is for adults. For a child who is unwell, seek age-appropriate advice; our child-fever guide for Antalya covers important warning signs for parents.
When to get urgent help
Call 112 if you are gasping, struggling to speak because of breathlessness, have a tight or heavy chest, develop blue or grey lips, or become suddenly confused. Do not drive yourself or wait for an app response. NHS: shortness of breath, GOV.UK: Turkey health advice.
Arrange urgent assessment today if your cough is becoming very severe, you feel markedly unwell, you cough up blood, or you develop chest pain or difficulty breathing that does not meet the emergency signs above. Tell the clinician about these symptoms before agreeing to a routine visit. If symptoms become severe while you wait, call 112. NHS: cough.
Seek medical advice earlier if you are pregnant, over 65, have a weakened immune system, or live with a long-term heart, lung or kidney condition. These factors can change how a chest infection should be assessed. NHS: chest infection.
Can a doctor assess a cough at your hotel?
For a stable adult without emergency warning signs, an in-person assessment can help establish what care is needed. A clinician will ask about the cough and other symptoms, examine you and usually listen to your chest. Depending on the findings, further investigation may be needed to check for another condition, such as pneumonia. German Federal Ministry of Health: acute bronchitis.
Before accepting a hotel visit, ask: “Can you assess my cough in person, and where would I go if I need further tests?”
A hotel visit should not be assumed to include a chest X-ray, blood tests or hospital treatment. If the clinician recommends a clinic or hospital, follow that advice. Choosing care with the right facilities matters more than keeping the appointment at your accommodation.
Give your exact Antalya location
“Antalya” alone is not enough information for a visit request. A property in Lara, accommodation in central Antalya and a resort in Side are different locations. Give the full property name, district, street address, room or apartment details and an accurate map pin. Use your current accommodation, not just the airport where you arrived.
Our Antalya location guide can help you choose the relevant area. A listed destination does not guarantee that a doctor can accept your request. Confirm the proposed location and consultation language before accepting, particularly if you need care in English.
What to tell the doctor
Prepare a brief account of the illness:
- When did the cough start, and is it improving or getting worse?
- Is it dry, or are you bringing up mucus? Have you noticed any blood?
- Do you also have fever, wheezing, chest pain or breathlessness?
- Have you had similar episodes, or do you have asthma or another long-term condition?
- Which medicines have you taken, including inhalers and non-prescription products?
Bring medicine names or packaging and mention allergies. Tell the clinician about any upcoming flight so you can ask whether your symptoms need further assessment before travelling. These details support an examination; they do not establish a diagnosis on their own. German Federal Ministry of Health: assessment of acute bronchitis, CDC: chest colds.
Does a cough or chest infection need antibiotics?
Not necessarily. Acute bronchitis, sometimes called a chest cold, is usually viral and generally improves without antibiotics. Other conditions, including pneumonia, can produce similar symptoms and may need different treatment. The reason for an assessment is to decide what is appropriate, not to obtain a particular prescription. CDC: chest colds and treatment.
Do not assume that describing the problem as a “chest infection” confirms its cause. Ask the clinician what they think is happening, what treatment is recommended and which changes should prompt another review.
If the cough is mild and improving
Rest, drink fluids and avoid smoking. A pharmacist can advise on suitable symptom relief and check whether a product is compatible with your existing medicines. Non-prescription cough medicines may ease symptoms temporarily, but they do not cure the underlying illness. NHS: chest infection, CDC: symptom relief.
Some coughs take three to four weeks to settle. Arrange a medical review if yours lasts longer than three weeks, and seek help sooner if it worsens or warning signs appear. The duration alone is not a reason to wait when you feel seriously unwell. NHS: cough.
If throat pain is your main concern, our sore-throat guide for Turkey covers that different assessment question.
Before the consultation ends
Ask what to expect next, when to seek further help and whether any follow-up is needed. If you may claim on travel insurance, ask for the consultation record and invoice, and check your insurer's requirements. Documentation does not guarantee reimbursement.
For a non-emergency appointment, start your request in the Docio app with your symptoms and exact address. If breathing becomes severely difficult, call 112 instead.
